Poems About Creativity

October 26, 2013 | by Cynthia Herbert

get-attachment.aspx I am just finishing taking a free course on creativity through Penn State and Coursera. Here are my final reflections on the course, in the form of poems:

Intelligent Fast Failure
Be smart.
Just start.
If at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again!
If at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again!
I said…
If at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again!
Try-fail-reflect!
It’s never what you expect!
Try-crash and burn!
But think of all you’ll learn!
Be smart.
Just start.

Character.
I am what I say.
I am what I do.
In my creative work,
My character shines through.
I want it to show the best I can be.
I want it to show
The excellence of me!

Entrepreneurship.
It’s a risky business, friend,
You don’t know how it’ll end.
So plan and work and play.
And always seize the day.
Take the chance.
Dance the dance.
Ride on the highs.
Weather the lows.
And go another round
When everything blows!

owNership.
Make your own menu,
You entrepreneurs!
Life is a banquet.
The choice is yours!

Tenacity.
Once is never enough
To get anything right.
It takes longer than an hour,
Longer than all night.
If it matters, make the time—
Give what you need to give.
What? It takes a lifetime?
Yes! But what a way to live!

Excellence.
Do your best
And be patient about the rest.

Relationship.
Ideas and plans are terrific!
That’s always what I say…
But you need a support system
At the end of a tough day…

Creative diversity.
Won’t you dance this dance with me?
It’s all about diversity.
I need you and you need me.
Though we are different as different can be!
I like to open—you like to close.
On any issue we tend to oppose.
But I’m good for you
And you’re good for me!
I deepen your ideas
And you set me free!
There’s power and wisdom
In solidarity—
A coalition of diversity!
So let’s share ideas
And watch them grow!
No one knows how
Far we can go!
It takes more than a village
To save our dear Earth.
So let’s work together
And respect each other’s worth.
I’m good for you!
You’re good for me!
What a treasure—
Diversity!
